Some New Stuff at PT

It may be summer, the time of vacation and waning motivations, but that doesn't mean I'm slacking off! I'm still making it up to the gym Mondays and Fridays, for six hours a week of standing, walking, weights, and pain

Here's my latest walking video from Friday.

We've really slowed the rhythm down, in an attempt to get me to do the bulk of the work of pulling my leg through while the other leg is in stance. As you can see below (thanks to those handy Michigan slippers that help my feet slide more easily) I'm playing at least a small role in those baby steps, be it a reflexive, involuntary movement or actually something that I'm contributing to.

Let the record show I collapsed with exhaustion after each of these videos. I'm tensing up my whole body trying to activate those pesky hip flexors, and as a result my arms, torso, even head feel like they're going to fall off.

After a few hundred feet of walking/stumbling, we moved on to something new: crawling. I've been working a lot on building my triceps up (it's beach season, after all!), and could really see the difference in how much better I could support my upper body. It used to take a person on each elbow to keep them from buckling; now I can manage them pretty well on my own with only a bit of help.

Above, we used the harness over head to help support my torso and hips. In the video below, we said, "Screw you, harness," and ditched it. It was definitely more difficult, but I was able to emerge without an epic face plant. Counting that as a win!

Thanks for sharing!! You have made great progress with your hard work & dedication. Wishing you continued success. Larry & I had a nice surprise a couple weeks ago Nat & her boyfriend Peter came for a visit for a few days. We had a nice time. She is busy with college - working full time & she just moved into a different apt to save almost 1/2 the amound of rent she was paying. She said this is crazy to pay this much rent so she found a duplex apt. which is located in a safe area. I would assume she is thinking how many more pair of shoes - extra clothes & purses she can buy with this money. Her boyfriend said the place is very clean. I guess I will get to inspect in Nov. when we visit.
Enjoy the fall weather in July. This is awesome but not good for the HVAC business. We need people to be in misery with the extreme heat.
    Take care.

I know you are excited with football season here. Nat is attending the Michigan - Michigan State Game this year as her boyfriend's best friend is a big Michigan State Fan. I certainly hope she behaves herself. HAHA. I don't want her to get into any trouble in MI or I may have to call the Youngs to assist with bail out. She will have fun. I guess the guy has a big RV they are using for their pregame party. We will be visiting her next month so I will lecture her before our departure. She is doing well with her CNP classes. All A's so far. She likes her apartment. Larry D. enjoyed his Canada fishing trip. I assume he went fishing even though they never bring fish home & I haven't seen photos yet. There are 5 guys from his work that go for a get away. I guess we all are getting ready for chilly weather in a couple days. The white snow will be here sooner than what we want. My dad is getting ready for a total knee replacement. Makes me hurt just thinking about it. He has bone on bone in both knees. He went back to driving semi again - day trips after saying he was done driving last Dec. Trucking has always been his #1 priority. Workaholic all his life. He loves it. As long as he is able to drive safe & can react quickly in any situation that could happen. Makes me nervous as he is 76 years old but what do I know or what can I say. He is in good health other than his knees. I hope I continue to take after him with perfect bloodwork other than my weight.
I just started a 1200 calorie diet last Thurs. I joined the pathway to change weight loss - fitness program at our local hospital after 25 pounds of weight gain in less than 2 years. Not a good situation. 45 pound weight loss is my ultimate goal. This will be tough. Nat told me obesity means death mom. She was not impressed with her mom or dad when she visited in July.My routine has been work - come home eat & then go to bed. Not a good plan with no exercise. Hope all is well with your family.

    Take care.
